Channeling his passion for art, craft and textiles, Divyam Mehta launched his eponymous label in 2006. Following his graduation from the Pearl Academy of Fashion in 2004, Divyam went on to pursue his masters in Fashion Marketing from the London College of Fashion. Hailing from a family of renowned fashion patrons who founded brands such as L’affaire, Satya Paul and Heritage, Divyam’s affinity for Indian textile and craft was ingrained in him from a young age. Divyam launched his own label with a vision to reinvent traditional Indian aesthetics in modern and cutting edge fashion. Divyam started his design studio with only a small team of artisans, creating contemporary occasion wear for men. Today, Divyam has expanded his label to cater to women as well. Divyam made his official debut in the Indian fashion industry with his spring/summer collection launch at the Wills India Fashion Week in 2010.

In the same year, Divyam launched his label at Ensemble Kalaghoda. Today Divyam is a household name at Ensemble and his collection has a strong presence in all our stores. Experimenting with diverse techniques from across India and the globe, Divyam draws inspiration from the best creative minds, including but not limited to, artists, composers, and spiritual leaders. Injecting the essence of beauty and art in each of his collections, some of his previous lines have been inspired by pottery, Buddhist monks, and French artist Jean Degottex. Divyam’s underlying design philosophy is to reimagine local and indeginous textile in a modern context. In an interview with FDCI, Divyam once stated, “I think the only way to save textiles is to interpret them in a modern way so that they can be worn globally, which is what has been my brand’s aim.”

Favouring premium high-grade fabrics, Divyam primarily uses heavy weight dupion silks, handloom matka, linen, cotton and chanderi in his collections. The unique play of organza in dupattas, sleeves and capes brings a feminine and bohemian touch to Divyam’s pieces. For his capsule Fall / Winter lines, Divyam incorporates handloom merino and Italian wool into his collections. Divyam also uses an extensive colour palette in his designs. His Indian festive collection typically features bright traditional colours such as red, blue, yellow, pink, green and orange. His contemporary collection includes more neutral and tonal shades such as, beige, grey, blue, white, black, and charcoal.

Textile, texture, and print form a bulk of Divyam’s collections. From implementing Japanese shibori to various other dyeing and weaving techniques, such as blotting, bandhani, ikat and kantha, Divyam has explored varied forms of craftsmanship. His signature homegrown prints are inspired by botanical themes, pebble art, tribal patchwork and ceramics. Additionally, delicate embroidery detailing and embellishments add another dimension to Divyam’s aesthetic. Divyam’s Indian traditional line, characterized by tonal and multi-colour thread embroidery, hand sewn beadwork and flowing organza dupattas is elegant and understated. These classic kurta sets, sharara sets and saris are perfect for morning poojas and light festivities.

Divyam’s menswear collection includes a wide category offering. From sherwanis, bandhgalas, kurtas and kurta sets to bundis, shirts , trousers and waistcoats , his collections cater to both traditional and everyday occasions. Divyam’s heavy embroidered sherwanis are great wedding day options for a groom or a close family member. His draped kurtas sets, and bundi sets are apt for mehendis, cocktail parties, engagements and light festivities. With their playful and edgy vibe, his colorful printed kurta sets, shirts and draped trousers are must haves for fashion forward men.

Over the years, Divyam Mehta has developed an extensive list of celebrity patrons. Bollywood actors such as Taapsee Pannu, Ayushmann Khurrana, Milind Soman, Shahid Kapoor, Neha Dhupia, Ranbir Kapoor and Akshay Kumar have all donned the designer’s creations.
