SHOP MANISH MALHOTRA AT ENSEMBLE ONLINE
Manish Malhotra's association with Ensemble has been very strong. As one of India's leading fashion designers, he shares a special bond with the store.
"Ensemble was the first of its kind and I remember being so fascinated by the concept of an up-market store with Indian designers. Tina [Tahiliani Parikh] has always thought of the future, which is all the more relevant at the lowest point in the industry. She democratised fashion," he told Vogue India in 2012.
Manish Malhotra, launched his label at the Ensemble Kala Ghoda store in 2005. Prior to that, he was primarily a costume designer and stylist for Bollywood movies. He has created costumes for many famous actresses such as Sridevi, Kajol, Madhuri Dixit, Karishma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan, creating memorable looks for them that are referenced even today. Manish Malhotra’s costumes for Urmila Matondkar in the movie Rangeela won him a Filmfare award for best costume design. The young and current crop of debutant actors and celebrities such as Janhvi Kapoor, Tara Sutaria and Ananya Pandey are often styled and dressed by Manish MalhotraTop couture client Natasha Poonawala has been featured in the brand’s advertising campaign. Malhotra’s name is still synonymous with styling in Hindi cinema.
“For me Ensemble is iconic,” says Malhotra. “It was one of the first stores in India which forecasted change. It's got an identity and it’s maintained that.”
Ensemble's merchandising team works with Manish Malhotra and team to ensure the most exclusive and premium latest collections at the best prices, both for the online shop and our 5 stores across Mumbai and Delhi.
SHOP MANISH MALHOTRA COLLECTIONS: FROM INDIAN ETHNIC TO GLAMOUROUS WESTERN WEAR
Manish Malhotra's design philosophy is high octane glamour. His glittering ensemble's encrusted with Swarovski and zardozi, in a range of silhouettes such as gowns, shararas, lehengas, saris, kurtas and jacket lehengas are worn to glamorous events where one wants to make a statement. Manish Malhotra also promotes regional handicrafts and workmanship and Kashmiri embroidery through his association with the Mijwan Welfare Society. Manish Malhotra launched his menswear line in 2015 and specialises in kurtas, sherwanis, achkans, bandhgalas and bundis. Ensemble retails a broad range of Manish Malhotra designs.
What Malhotra is best known for is Indian wear for festive occasions. He specialises in bridal lehengas and lehengas for sangeets and receptions. His lighter pieces are appropriate for cocktails, mehendis and engagements. His more avante garde creations are apt for resort and destination weddings. His lehengas sport a variety of blouses such as one shouldered and crop tops which can then be paired with other pieces. Manish Malhotra also loves designing impactful and glamorous gowns perfect for cocktails and receptions, made from yards of satin highlighted with crystal. These gowns are perfect for the red carpet.
Manish Malhotra’s saris, anarkalis, kurta sets, kalidars and sharara sets range from traditional and ethnic to very modern in design. His favourite embroideries are zardozi, mukaish, resham, dori and Kashmiri embroidery. He has in the past done special collections of Benarasi brocade and chikankari lehengas. Malhotra’s saris range from being effectively glamorous with a sequinned border on a georgette sari to much more intricately embroidered pieces with one shoulder or highly fashionable blouses embellished with stones and feathers.
Manish also designs wearable kurta and palazzo sets and tunics with colour blocking. His favourite colours for kurtas are beige, black, blue, cream, fuschia, grey, silver, red, black and blue. His favourite fabrics are georgette, chiffon, chanderi, brocade and velvet.
It is because of the range of styles that Manish designs and the fact that many of his tops can be paired with other pieces in your wardrobe that Ensemble considers him to be a versatile designer.
Manish Malhotra fashion shows are known for their star showstoppers and Bollywood attendance. His showstoppers in the past have included Deepika Padukone, Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Katrina Kaif, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Janhvi Kapoor.
